Meet Lea & Laurie

We’re the faces behind L.A. Counseling Services — a small, Ohio-based counseling practice serving nearby communities including Worthington, Galena, Sunbury, and the greater Columbus area. Lea sees clients in Worthington, while Laurie sees clients in Galena. Together, we’re dedicated to creating a welcoming space where individuals and couples can find healing and growth. It’s not about “fixing” anyone — it’s about recognizing that we all have wounds that need care, compassion, and understanding.

What We Offer

We provide a personalized Christian approach to all of our clients. Care, compassion, and attention are at the heart of what we do. We know each individual and couple is unique. And you'll be treated as such! This approach allows us to identify the support you need and to work together to find the peace and healing you seek.

We constantly strive to offer new services and methodologies to treat a wide range of emotional and behavioral needs.  We address issues ranging from recent life transitions to life-long struggles. We work with individuals dealing with anxiety, grief, depression, trauma and couples facing relationship difficulties, infertility, and so much more.

Some Common Questions

What's therapy like?

Every therapy session is unique. That's part of what makes L.A. Counseling Services special. We'll work with you to set up a plan that meets your schedule and needs. Generally speaking, therapy involves a 60- to 90-minute dialogue with a therapist in a relaxed environment. Sometimes this will involve a series of weekly, bi-weekly or monthly sessions, but that will likely decrease over time. Eventually, you may opt to simply revisit topics periodically.

WHAT’S EMDR ALL ABOUT?

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a therapy that helps people process distressing memories and experiences that may still feel “stuck.” With guidance from a therapist, you’ll use gentle eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation while focusing on a troubling memory. Over time, this helps reduce the emotional charge connected to those memories, allowing you to recall them with more clarity and less distress. It’s often used to treat trauma, anxiety, and other issues rooted in past experiences.

Shouldn't I be able to handle this on my own?

We all need help sometimes. No one should have to struggle alone. Sometimes we get to a point where the things that helped us feel better are no longer working, and we don’t know what else to do. Or, we have the same issues that never go away, and we get tired of trying to solve them on our own.

WHAT ABOUT MEDICATION?

Medication can be a helpful part of your treatment. It is not a substitute for therapy. Often times it is used in conjunction with therapy.  It is up to you and your doctor to decide if medication with be a part of your treatment.

Is it too late?

It's never too late to seek help! Certainly some problems build and become more challenging over time, but that's when a counselor may be as critical as ever.
